One of the Dumber Things We’ve Seen

Something called Blue Nation Review has put up one of the more absurd things Law Shield has ever seen on Facebook — and that’s saying something.

This group tries to make a false equivalence between the Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bombing and gun regulation. Honestly, we’ve tried to understand what they’re driving at, but it’s so nonsensical we can’t get to the point.

The strawman Blue Nation Review sets up is, “What if the FBI had NRA logic?”

The post says, “Imagine what our country would be like if we legalized explosives. Can you imagine a world where that wouldn’t be a safety hazard? Then share this to stand up for sensible gun control!”

It doesn’t take a lawyer to know that explosives are already legal and regulated by the same agency as firearms, as in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.

Furthermore, firearms are among the most regulated products sold. Just to mention a few applicable laws, the National Firearms Act, Gun Control Act of 1968, Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, Undetectable Firearms Act (1988), Gun-Free School Zones Act (1990), and the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act (1993).

And the OK City bomb was made from two unregulated (at the time) components, fertilizer and diesel fuel.

Does this comparison make any sense to you?
