On December 19, Ohio Governor John Kasich signed Amended Substitute Senate Bill 199, which includes several pro-gun provisions that U.S. Law Shield of Ohio Members should enjoy. It will go into effect in 90 days.
Sponsored by state Senator Joe Uecker (R-14), Sub. SB 199 would provide the following:
- Active-duty members of the military that have successfully completed small arms training would be permitted to carry a concealed handgun without having to obtain a license;
- Employers would not be allowed to ban firearms in employee’s vehicles in company parking lots;
- Allow persons with a concealed carry license to carry into the public area of an airport terminal (but not beyond the screening checkpoint), on campuses where the institution has adopted policies to permit the concealed carry of handguns to licensed holders, child day-care centers, and government buildings with a policy permitting the licensed carrying of concealed handguns.

The bill has been a long time in the making, having been first introduced in the Senate by State Senators Uecker and Randy Gardner on July 20, 2015. After several rounds of hearings and debate, the bill finally passed the Senate and was sent to the House on April 27, 2016.
