Measure Would ‘Forgive’ Forgetful Airport Carriers

Texas Law Shield would like to advise our members of an interesting bill that has passed the Texas House.

House Bill 554 would forgive concealed-handgun license holders for forgetting they are carrying a handgun in airport security lines. Bringing a gun to the airport is currently a 3rd-degree felony.

Rep. Drew Springer, R-Muenster, authored the bill. The Texas House voted 139-0 to get rid of the law. The bill now goes to the Texas Senate. If passed by the Senate and signed by Gov. Abbott, the act would take effect September 1, 2015.

The measure would protect a licensee from being arrested if he or she is caught in security with a handgun, but the individual immediately leaves the area after the firearm is discovered.
