I want to talk to you a little bit about people’s response(s) to you deciding to either open carry or concealed carry in a public place.
One scenario that we run into all the time is the grocery store, right? You are at the grocery store. You are minding your own business, and someone sees you printing, or in other words, they see a bulge (maybe they see a handle of your firearm, or they see something that’s indicative like an extra magazine holder). That gives away the fact that perhaps you are carrying a firearm and some people can have a very negative reaction.
3 Tips On How to react
From a legal perspective, there’s nothing illegal about carrying a gun in that circumstance, provided you’re not a prohibited person and a grocery store is not a prohibited place.
From a practical point of view, here are three great tips:
- Don’t engage in arguments or get in a mouth battle with crazy. If a person is making a big whoop and holler about your right to carry a firearm and how dangerous it is and whatever talking point that they have fixed on their mind, you just have to let it go. Have thick skin: be the adult.
- Just ignore them. If they want to make a big deal out of it, don’t make a big deal out of it. Don’t even give them the time of day.
- Just walk away. Yeah, I know you have your groceries, and you got them all lined up, and maybe the person has a couple of their friends there. The best thing you can do is just walk away. That’s what happens with 90% of confrontations out there. They’re completely and totally unnecessary.
So, those are the three tips that we have when it comes to your License to Carry a firearm and either open carrying or concealed carrying when you’re doing it legally, and someone takes an exception to it.
