Law Shield believes our Multi-State members will share our disappointment in the discipline handed down to four Wisconsin ATF agents involved in the wrong-headed Operation Backfire.
As reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, ATF agents running an undercover storefront in Milwaukee used a brain-damaged man with a low IQ to set up gun and drug deals, paying him in cigarettes, merchandise and money. They later arrested him.
They also allowed armed felons to leave a storefront used in the operation, arrested four innocent people, and failed to secure the store, resulting in the operation being burglarized.
All four were eventually issued a “memorandum of caution” — the mildest action an ATF internal review board can take other than no action.
Separately, Special Agent Michael Aalto, the lead undercover agent, had his guns stolen, including a machine gun, which has not been recovered.
